In the early 90’s Ian Sirota began his comedy career in his hometown of Montreal. A former assistant editor at a small local paper, he figured why not make people laugh. After one year at the renowned COMEDY WORKS, Sirota took the normal comic path to Toronto where he became a fixture at Yuk Yuks. Some of his highlights included opening for GILBERT GODFRIED at THE PEOPLE’S COMEDY FESTIVAL. In 1996 Ian became a regular cast member on the hit YTV sketch show “IT’S ALIVE.” That very same year Sirota and three other comics formed the BLOCKHEADS a sketch troupe whose notoriety took the form of duping talk show host JERRY SPRINGER. The hoax received national attention in both Canada and the United States and ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY placed in the top ten of show biz stories of the year. In 1998 Sirota appeared on the CBC comedy series SKETCH.COM with his sketch troupe LAME AND SHOOSTER. Later that year Sirota took his act to New York City where he resided for the next two years. Some of the New York highlights include; opening for DENNIS LEARY, NORM MACDONALD, JON STEWART and LEWIS BLACK among others. Sirota was a regular at Stand-Up New York and toured extensively across the United States. Two years later, Sirota was back in mother Canada as Toronto came calling with a writing job on the comedy network series GUTTERBALL ALLEY. In 2003 he was offered and accepted a writing position with the CTV sketch comedy series COMEDY INC. In 2004 the show was renewed and Ian became a featured performer on the show. Ian is also currently writing a movie for CTV; which will begin production in 2005. Jake Mckinnon of Bravo magazine describes Sirota’s comedy as; “A cross between Dennis Leary and Don Rickles. Not to be missed or taken lightly.“
